Houston Attractions - Hermann Park

Author: James C

Hermann park is the first public park built in the city of Houston. It was given to the city in 1914 by George Hermann. At the park you will find picnic areas, running trails, dog areas and more. It is a special place enjoyed by both tourists and Houston residents alike. So what is there specifically to do in the park.

One place to go in the park is McGovern Lake. McGovern Lake is an eight acre lake with two islands which host migratory birds. Visitors can rent paddle boats and kids and seniors can fish from Bob's Fishing Pier.

Do you have kids? If so you can take them to the Hermann Park Train. The train runs from 10 to 5 and costs only 2.25 to ride.

Perhaps one of the best places to go in the park is the Houston Zoo. The zoo occupies 55 acres of the park and is home to over 800 species of animals. See hundreds of hands on and visual exhibits that will totally immerse you in the natural world.

If you are lucky you could also see a show at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in the park. Lay on the grassy greens and watch live music or performance artists. To hear about upcoming show times call 713-284-8350.

There are dozens of other attractions at the park and hundreds of things to do. Hopefully this article has given you a quick taste of how special this place is. For more information about Hermann park you can call 713-524-5876 or just visit the park which is located at 6201 A Golf Course Drive in Houston.
